The team Strategic Studies is a part of Technology Centre AS CR. It was established in 2001. In the beginning of this decade the state administration was preparing important documents in the area of research, technology development (RTD) and innovation. Background analyses and prospective studies focused on strategic issues in research, technology development and innovation are indispensable for preparation of such documents. The initial target of the work of the team Strategic Studies consisted in preparing such information sources. The team will be further engaged in this activity according to the needs of the state administration and its advisory bodies.
The scope of activities of the team was significantly extended in 2004 when Technology Centre received a grant for a research plan “Strategic Studies for Research and Technology Development“. Within the framework of the research plan methodology for strategic studies will be systematically developed and a qualified workplace will be conceptually built, which will be capable of working on analytic and conceptual studies in phase with the progress of this scientific discipline on the international scale and which will also be capable of contributing actively to the development of this scientific discipline.
In the years 2001 – 2004 the team was involved in a number of international projects in the field of strategic studies in research, technology development and innovation.
Increasing interest of the state administration, and also organizations established by the state administration, in the results of the work of this team is encouraging. These results have been used for the preparation of key strategic documents – National RTD Policy, National Research Programmes, National Innovation Strategy, documents for using the European Structural Funds.
Regions are increaingly interested in strategic information which is applied in preparing regional innovation strategies.
The most important Czech clients are: Ministry of Education, Ministry for Regional Development, Council for Research and Development, Government Office of the Czech Republic and CzechInvest. Studies and analyses for international institutions – European Commission, European Commission´s Joint Research Centre and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) - are also elaborated.
Since 2003 the team Strategic studies has been organizing international training courses focused on technology foresight in cooperation with UNIDO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education. |
